Is a California visa required?
Depending on the country of origin, the regulations for entering the United States vary permanently. You have to check the requirements very well before traveling.
Currently, under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), citizens of 38 countries do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days (without extensions) if they have a machine-readable passport that meets US standards and has valid for six months from the expected end of your stay. We have already mentioned this list in the previous article on the subject do European citizens need a visa for the USA.
How and where to apply for a California visa?
- Citizens of VWP countries must obtain a travel authorization online through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) at least 72 hours before travel. Once approved, the ESTA authorization (the US $ 14) is valid for up to two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
- Citizens of other countries or whose passports do not comply with US regulations will have to apply for a visa in their country. The management has a minimum cost of 160 US $, involves a personal interview, and can take several weeks; it must be requested as far in advance as possible.
- For up-to-date information on eligibility and entry requirements, visit the visa section of the US Department of State website or contact the US embassy or consulate at the country of origin.
So what happens if you do get approved for a tourist visa?
The moment you get your ESTA it will electronically get linked to your passport so you won’t be needing any copies of it at the airport. By scanning your passport, the agents at the border security will get all the information, but you can take a copy just in case there are any issues just to stay safe in those unwanted moments.
An ESTA is valid for two years, or until your passport expires. An ESTA is not possible to extend, so once is no longer valid you must complete a completely new application, the way you did before.
